Our Commitment

DANTA is more than our name.

When I first started DANTA, I wanted to choose a name that felt Costa Rican and connected to the incredible biodiversity, wildlife and natural beauty that make our country so special.

The danta, or Baird’s tapir (Tapirus bairdii), is one of Costa Rica’s most remarkable wild animals. Not only is it our largest land mammal, but it also plays a super important role in our forests by dispersing seeds and helping shape the ecosystem. It's also a species considered endangered in Costa Rica.

I didn’t want to simply use the name of an animal as a marketing tool. If we were going to use this name, I wanted it to mean something.

Giving back to Costa Rica

That’s why we have partnered with Fundación Corcovado through its Make a Difference program.

Fundación Corcovado is a Costa Rican nonprofit organization that has worked since 1999 to protect the country’s natural heritage, particularly in the Osa Peninsula. Its work began with efforts to combat illegal hunting and logging around Corcovado National Park and today includes conservation, environmental education, support for local communities and sustainable tourism.

Through our partnership, DANTA helps financially support Fundación Corcovado’s conservation programs.

For our first edition, $3 from each box will be donated to Fundación Corcovado. Our agreement also establishes our participation in the Foundation’s Make a Difference program, meaning we will keep supporting the foundation with future drops. 

So when you open a DANTA box you’re also helping us give something back to the country that inspired it.
